Getaround vs Uber Carshare
Getaround and Uber Carshare are similar in that they both set out to disrupt the established car rental companies’ market with a more resourceful, convenient and eco-conscious model.
Getaround and Uber Carshare both improve upon the traditional car hire experience by using technology to make it simple and hassle-free to hire a car.. For example, Getaround has created specific technology that allows borrowers to unlock any car through the app. Uber Carshare also uses the app and in-car technology to manage bookings, with two ways to borrow cars: Instant Keys or Key Handover.
For cars that advertise Instant Keys, borrowers don’t need to meet the owner to access the cars. The keys are kept in a secure lockbox - just use the app to generate a one-time use code to open the lockbox and get the keys.
For Key Handover, borrowers and owners get in touch with each other to arrange a time and place to meet and exchange keys at the start and end of each trip
Both services are serious about sustainability, with peer-to-peer car-sharing reducing the number of cars on our roads and providing access to environmentally-friendly models. Uber Carshare also reduces your carbon footprint by purchasing certified renewable carbon offsets. Uber Carshare is also working in partnership with Hyundai to make more electric and low-emission cars available to borrowers.

Renting out your car is really easy - most Uber Carshare car owners spending less than 1 hour per month managing their car and it’s easy to do from the app and website. We’ll take care of the rest including damage cover, payments, bookings, borrower screenings, tolls, fines, and marketing. We suggest giving car-sharing a go for at least a few months - that’s enough time for the bookings to really start rolling in!
There are no lock-in contracts or cancellation fees if you want to remove your car from our platform. All memberships are month-to-month, including those for borrowing members - leave when you like.
So how much can I make?
Average small car = $250 - $350 a month
Utes or Van = $350 - $750
Plus, if you meet our criteria we guarantee that you’ll earn an extra $2K within your first year of renting OR we’ll make up the difference.
