Adelaide festivals not to miss in 2022

With borders now open, 2022 is shaping up to be the year to get out and explore Australia and where better to start than Adelaide during festival season!

Running from mid-February and throughout March, Adelaide’s festival season has it all, from music and live performance to art and thought-provoking discussions.

We’ve compiled a list of our favourite festivals for you to get out and enjoy this summer.

Adelaide Fringe

18 February to 20 March 2022
Adelaide and greater South Australia

Adelaide Fringe is the biggest arts festival in the Southern Hemisphere. If you are a lover of cabaret, theatre, comedy, circus, music or visual arts then this festival is a must.

Adelaide Fringe is non-for-profit and open access, meaning that it is open to anyone to register an event resulting in a truly diverse and unique lineup of acts.

With 6000 plus artists performing across 300 venues across South Australia, Adelaide Fringe is a great way to explore the state whilst also taking in some incredible performances.

4-20 March 2022
Adelaide city and outskirts

If internationally acclaimed theatre productions, world-class musicians, spectacular dance pieces, renowned writers and striking visual arts displays are your thing, then look no further than Adelaide Festival.

This years’ program includes Manifesto from the Stephanie Lake Company, The Whitlams and Haydn’s Solar Poetics: Morning Noon & Night.

Writers Week

March to 10 March 2022
Pioneer Women’s Memorial Garden, King William Road

The theme of this year’s Writers Week is to challenge writers to not only think about the bigger picture but to imagine a better picture, exploring a post-COVID world with greater equality, humanity and community.

The lineup features some of Australia’s most interesting minds including Annabel Crabb and Peter Doherty as well as many amazing international writers and thinkers.

What’s more, all sessions at the Pioneer Women’s Memorial Garden are free.

WOMADelaide

11-14 March 2022
Adelaide Botanic Park/ Tainmutilla

An open-air festival held across 8 stages in Adelaide’s beautiful Botanic Park, WOMADelaide showcases the best in global music, dance and art as well as discussion panels, workshops, cooking demonstrations and over 100 international food and community stalls.

WOMADelaide is a family-friendly festival with free entry for kids 12 and under and a dedicated KidZone with nature-play activities, stories, singing, dancing and educational entertainment.

This year’s music lineup includes acts such as Courtney Barnett, The Cat Empire and Baker Boy.
