Podcasts have taken off in a big way over the last few years, with every woman, man, child and four-legged friend raving about their latest binge listen. The increasing popularity of podcasts comes with one huge benefit: there really is something for everyone. And when you’re taking a break from life in the city and have a long roadtrip ahead of you, there’s nothing like downloading a few episodes and knowing your ears have hours of entertainment coming their way.

Whether you feel like a gripping true crime story or something more light-hearted, there’s definitely a podcast out there to educate, delight or entertain you while you travel.

If you’re into true crime…

A great Australian true crime series is Phoebe’s Fall, from The Age newspaper in Melbourne. This podcast looks at the tragic life and death of a young woman whose body was found at the bottom of the garbage chute in her city apartment building. It’s a gripping listen and with all the episodes already released it’s perfect for a long roadtrip binge.

If you’re after a laugh…

If you like your entertainment with a side of education, check out Do Go On. Each episode, Aussie comedians Matt Stewart, Jess Perkins and Dave Warneke take turns researching an obscure topic and reporting back to each other. Recent topics have included Harry Potter, Ryan Gosling and the disappearance of Prime Minister Harold Holt. It’s funny and informative!

If you like all things books, movies and music…

Slate's Culture Gabfest features three culture critics discussing the best and worst of the week from the world of movies, books, music and art. With everything from Fifty Shades of Grey to the New Yorker magazine covered, you’ll be up-to-date with all things culture in no time.

If you’re interested in start up culture…

Each episode of How I Built This looks into the history of a different company and the people behind it. It’s a really interesting look at the false starts and successes that make up the stories of some of today’s biggest brands. Previous episodes have covered Instagram, Ben & Jerry’s, and Airbnb.

If you want to learn about everything…

Watching a TED Talk is great, but they’re not exactly portable (or driving friendly). That’s where the TED Talks Daily podcast comes in. Get daily bite-sized TED Talks in audio format on pretty much every topic: fixing fashion’s waste problem, how Minecraft can help kids with autism, or the benefits of deep sleep.

If you want to hear the Uber Carshare story...

The Businesses of Tomorrow podcast from The Australian newspaper follows four Australian founders as they seek to take their businesses from start up to scale up - including our own CEO, Will! Find out how they got their start, where they want to take their business next, and what it's going to take to get there.
